Classic Mat Pilates

Traditional Pilates.
Strong, controlled and never "just stretching".

Classic Mat Pilates is our traditional Pilates class, taught on the mat using your own bodyweight and sometimes small props such as a Pilates circle, ball or block.

This class focuses on core strength, posture, control, mobility and precision. It may look calm from the outside, but when done properly, Mat Pilates is challenging, intelligent and deeply strengthening.

This is the Pilates method at its most honest: no loud gimmicks, no weights, no sculpt-style add-ons - just focused movement, strong technique and serious control.

What to expect

A full-body Pilates class with a strong focus on core strength, alignment, breath and control.

You will work through Pilates exercises that build strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Some exercises are small and precise, others are more challenging and athletic. We give modifications and progressions where appropriate, but this is not a rehab class.

Classic Mat Pilates is best suited to clients who want traditional Pilates, enjoy technique and control, and are happy to work with focus rather than speed.

Is this class suitable for injuries?

Pilates is often recommended by doctors and physios, but not every Pilates class is suitable for every injury.

Our Classic Mat Pilates classes may include exercises such as roll backs, roll overs, planks, side lying work and spinal mobility. These can be brilliant for many bodies, but they may not be appropriate for everyone.

If you are injured, restricted, pregnant, recovering from surgery, or have been advised to "do Pilates" for rehab, please contact us before booking. We will help you find the most suitable option.
