Chair Pilates

Supported Pilates for strength, mobility and confidence.

Chair Pilates is a gentle, supportive class designed for clients who would like to move, strengthen and improve mobility without needing to get down onto a mat or use the Reformer.

This class takes place in our mat room and uses the support of a chair and the barre for seated and standing exercises. It is ideal for clients who may find traditional Mat Pilates too challenging, or who are not comfortable getting on and off the Reformer.

Expect gentle strength work, mobility, balance, coordination and core stability, all at a steady and supportive pace.

What to expect

A calm, supportive class focused on moving well and feeling more confident in your body.

We will use simple seated and standing Pilates-based exercises to support strength, mobility, posture, balance and coordination. The class is gentle, but still active, with options given throughout.

This is a good choice if you want to keep moving, build strength gradually, and enjoy the benefits of Pilates in a more accessible format.

Good to know

Chairs and equipment are provided.

Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Supportive footwear or grip socks may be helpful, especially for standing work.

We have a hands-on approach to teaching. If you prefer not to receive touch cues, please let your instructor know before class.

If you are unsure whether Chair Pilates is suitable for you, please email us before booking. We are always happy to help you choose the right class.

Who is this class for?

Chair Pilates is suitable for clients who are less mobile, returning to movement, or looking for a gentler way to build strength and confidence.

Most of the class will be seated or standing, using the chair and barre for support. You will not need to get down onto the floor, and there is no moving Reformer platform or heavy equipment to adjust.

This class may also be a good option for clients who experience dizziness, vertigo or POTS, as we avoid fast transitions between lying, sitting and standing. As always, if you have a medical condition or are unsure whether this class is suitable for you, please check with your healthcare professional and contact us before booking.

You should be able to sit upright in a chair, stand up from the chair with support if needed, and follow instructions in a small group class setting.
