Move Well
Pilates for strength, balance and confident movement as we age.
Move Well is a slower-paced class designed for older clients who want to stay strong, mobile and confident in their bodies.
This class focuses on the things that matter as we age: strength, balance, coordination, mobility, posture and core stability. It is gentle, but it is still an active group class.
Move Well uses a mix of Reformer Pilates and standing strength and balance work. Some exercises will be done on the Reformer, and others may be done standing beside the Reformer.
This is not the same as Level 1 Reformer. Level 1 is our beginner Reformer class for clients who are learning the equipment and building technique. Move Well is specifically designed for older clients who want a steady, supportive class focused on maintaining strength, balance and independence.
What to expect
A supportive, low-impact class focused on moving well and feeling stronger.
Expect controlled strength work, balance, mobility, coordination and core stability, with modifications and progressions given throughout.
You will move at a steadier pace, with more time to get set up, adjust equipment and move safely between exercises. The aim is to build strength, confidence and independence - not to rush.
Good to know
Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Grip socks are recommended, as part of the class will use the Reformer. If wearing shorts please do have fitted lining.
We have a hands-on approach to teaching. If you prefer not to receive touch cues, please let your instructor know before class.
If you are unsure whether Move Well is suitable for you, please email us before booking. We are always happy to help you choose the right class.
Who is this class for?
Move Well is ideal for clients who are generally mobile and independent, but would like a slower class with more time, support and guidance.
You should be comfortable getting on and off the Reformer, moving between lying, seated, kneeling and standing positions, standing for some exercises, and following instructions in a group class setting.
The Reformer is a moving platform, so a reasonable level of mobility, balance and independence is needed. There may also be times when you need to adjust parts of the equipment, such as springs, straps, footbars or the sitting box. Your instructor will guide you throughout.
If you have significant mobility restrictions, poor balance, recent surgery, an acute injury, or need close individual support throughout, Chair Pilates may be a more suitable option. Please contact us before booking and we will guide you honestly.
